It’s useless to define the term: everyone knows what a blog is. And if they don’t, there are plenty of definitions online, from the simple “online journal” to more philosophical, thought provoking, puzzling definitions.

From a corporate perspective a blog is a marketing tool. From the perspective of a citizen journalist… the blog is a dialogue tool. A freelance writer will use the blogging platform as a self-publishing tool.

There are different reasons for a blog to come into existence, but all aim success and social recognition (meaning acceptance and popularity within social media communities).

Publishing a successful blog is not an easy task for those with less experience in the fine art of dialoguing. A blog is a tool that enables its administrator or writer to share personal thoughts and information while engaging the readers into a virtual conversation.

To publish a successful blog you have to know your readers, understand their needs and live up to their expectations. Blogs are dynamic constructions. They need constant updating. If the conversation stagnates, your blog might become a ruin.

If you compare a blog to a traditional website you’ll note that, although easier to publish and “enhance” (update with fresh content), it requires more work. This is a living entity: it requires care, attention, nurturing. The social networking portals are “water for life”. You’ll have to connect with other bloggers, exchange ideas, ask questions, learn about widgets and other tools to enhance your construction, help them building up their own blogs and networks: a constant cooperation, especially between blogs within the same niche, is the key to publishing a successful blog. There are some strategic procedures that will help you make the best out of your blog:

- Leave meaningful comments on the blogs you like. Be polite and respectful. Treat others, as you would like them to treat you. Comments are a strategic foundation for building up strong reader-author relationships.

- Build up a solid community by joining social networking sites like mybloglog or spicypage. This is not so easy as it seems. To build up this community you’ll need to take your time, browse the member blogs and contact their authors. The contact should never sound like: “Hi, loved your blog. Visit mine”. Try to make a smarter comment. Pinch an entry and underline what you liked about it. This will show to the author that you actually mean what you say.

- Participate in meme games. Carry on the conversation and spread link love. Don’t be afraid to link to other blogs just to protect your Google PageRanks. If you didn’t know it by now, Google likes outbound links and if they are relevant for the content of a post you might even rank higher in the Google SERPs (this is rather complicated to explain, but take my word for it).

- Always put your readers first. Try to offer something unique, of real value every now and then. An idea. A tip. Publish an ebook and offer it free. This is how successful bloggers build strong relationships with their readers. Follow these basic rules and you’ll soon be the publisher of a successful blog. And remember: it’s all about the people!

A. Aim to be a better blogger every day. Always try to learn something different and new. Here is a great site that will help you build your site by personally developing yourself along with your blog. Either you keep up with the times/technology or your blog will eventually fade into the black-hole of the blogosphere and be but a forgotten memory.

B. Be yourself! Don’t try to be someone that you’re not. People will see right through it. Readers of your blog will be able to connect easier and relate to you in many ways. Being yourself lets the readers know that you are sincere and helpful at the same time. Your personality will show through your blogging and the people will love you for just being yourself!

C. Caring about what you blog will make you a more sincere blogger to your cause. Whether it may be helping people with HTML or fixing cars, you will be able to write better articles and will be knowledgeable in your field.

D. Don’t ever copy anyone else’s works on the net. Plagiarism is frowned upon and you will never live it down if you are found to have copied another person’s works. Not only that but you might find yourself in a legal battle that you don’t need.

E. Entertain your readers! Entertaining your readers with great articles, tips and free stuff will always keep them coming back for more. People love a site they can have fun with and learn at the same time. Use your imagination, when we were kids we were able to do anything right (at least in our minds)? That imagination will help connect you to your inner-self and let you grow freely with your blog.

F. Find your niche carefully. Finding a niche where you fit in is critical as this will help you as a starting blogger. Your knowledge of course will depend on your experiences and how much you care to expand your knowledge of that subject. We are all experts in our field, but can still master new ways of approaching problems and fixing them.

G. Great articles. Great articles are the gateway to your massive traffic building. Write great authoritative articles and share information with your readers. They in turn will keep coming back for your advice and share their information with you that they think might help you.

H. Help out new bloggers. Helping out new bloggers and inexperienced persons will build you great character. Your readers will know deep down in their hearts that you are willing to take time to help them and are once again, sincere about it. Helping out other people also makes a world of difference; you might even need help from one of them in the future!

I. Implement all the learning and plans that you have made for your blog. Find that “master plan”, gather all the advice you have read and tips given to you and IMPLEMENT them. If you don’t your success rate will drop dramatically.

J. Join articles submission sites. If you are a great writer, let the world know about it. Submitting to article submission sites will drive massive traffic to your site and earn you a reputation as a knowledgeable author in your field. Use sites like EzineArticles, Stumble and the other directories.

K. Knowledge on the blogosphere. Keep up to date with your knowledge from the blogosphere. Always find new methods that will save you time and money. Know how to work with all the aspects of blogging, from traffic building, readership, RSS feeds, link building etc.

L. Limitations are nothing on the web. There are no limitations on the web. You can always get help from other like minded individuals and experts in your field. If you don’t know how to do something, just ask. Most bloggers are willing to help you or will point you in the right direction. Link building is one of those areas where there are no limitations, with over 50 million sites and more being made everyday, there are no shortages of links!

M. Make friends with the top-bloggers. Making friends with the popular bloggers will help you get an inner perspective on their workings and how they achieve the things they did with their blog. Brainstorming with these experts gives you a lot of advantages and in time maybe you can contribute to their sites also, earning you authority and links for your own site! Imagine what ideas you could come up with if you had Steve Pavlina and Darren Rowse (just to name a few) in your corner.

N. Network with as many people as you can. Even if the person you are networking with is just beginning their blog, they might eventually become a PR 5 or higher blog. Networking is a great way to increase your rankings and PR for your blog. Networking can be done “on” and “off” line.

O. Offer great tips, free advice and other free stuff that your users/readers will be able to take with them and that makes a difference to them. Offering material that they cannot get from another site will have you one up on the other sites. They will love you for it and as a bonus come back often to see what they can get again.

P. Page rank. Your page rank will not increase unless you have useful links, hundreds and/or thousands of them pointing to your page. Page rank can be obtained by having an informative blog. A blog where people can keep coming back for more and refer other people to your site. Page rank should come second to writing great articles for your readers. Always put your readers first, PR will come eventually if you have a great blog.

Q. Question everything about your blog. Are you using an easy layout that people can easily navigate through? Is your color scheme easy on the eyes and not blinding people or make people wonder what happened to the text when they scroll through your site. Are all your links working? Is ad placement optimal, if that’s the way you’re going with your blog. There are many aspects to blogging that you must always question to yourself.

R. Read other peoples blogs! Reading other peoples blogs will increase your knowledge and you might learn something that you didn’t know before. Reading also gives you great ideas, maybe you can out-do someone or write an even better article on the subject. Reading forums, how to’s and personal development sites are a great way to answer some of your questions also.

S. Special style of your blog. You got to have your own style. That’s what makes your blog unique. Your writing style and layout of your page will be remembered easier by people if it’s not in the “norm” of other bloggers. Have a great looking graphic on your home page, write with passion and sincerity. Great first impressions last a long time. Slim-lining your blog will also create a more user friendly site and get rid of the stuff that just clutters your site making for a more eye-pleasing site.

T. Tools and training. Suggest web tools like SiteMeter and Google Web Tools etc. that users can use for free when checking their links, traffic, ranking or site building. Train other people in your field that are just getting started. You will have a loyal following and can do site sessions/reviews of each others’ blogs on what needs to be overhauled with blogs, what can be done better and so forth. As you are the more experienced person in your group, you will be responsible for being a leader to the others.

U. Understand the needs of your readers. Understanding the needs and what they crave will help you to build a better site for your readers. User friendly, easy to navigate pages and TONS of informative articles will do wonders for your blog! Understanding your readers will also help to maintain your reader author relationship in the long run and you will have loyal subscribers that keep coming back. Don’t be afraid to ask your readers what they want more of.

V. Verify all sources used in article writing. Verifying your sources will help you keep from “looking like a fool” and “looking like a liar”. Be sure of your sources first before publishing your article. No one likes to read one thing and it turns out to be the total opposite of what you published! Author expertise is a must for blogging. If you are not sure about it, don’t even publish it.

W. Who, what, where, when and why. Ok, I’m having a 6th grade flashback to my English creative writing labs, oh no! Actually, these are the 5 points that you should cover for any article written by you. If there is anything that pertains to these 5 points about the subject you are covering, then you should include it in your article. This basic guideline will help you also cover the basics of the articles, insert your interesting facts after the basics are done!

X. X-ray your blog. Yep, that’s exactly what I suggested. Just like we use x-rays to find broken bones in our body, x-raying your blog is just taking time out to find broken links and URL’s that don’t work. Nothing is more frustrating than clicking a link and going nowhere! It only takes a little time, but will show your readers that great care goes into your blog maintenance.

Y. Your blog is your soul. What you write about will give people/readers their personal assessment of you. It’s like meeting a complete stranger through your blog and seeing if you can connect with that person. Have an outstanding and caring blog, and the people will come back.

Z. “Zone” out in a place where you can get ideas. Zoning out can be daydreaming, or just sitting by yourself with a pad and pen and writing/jotting down ideas or articles you would like to incorporate into your blog. The best ideas come to us when we have no distractions and our minds are free to flow with ideas and imagination!

By following this list, you will have an alliance when Traffic Building, SEO (Search Eng!ne Optimization), Article Writing, PR (Page Rank) building and Monetizing. Just follow these tips and they will open doors to the above mentioned site elements that will help you achieve your goals. I wish you the best success! http://www.moonburst-tones.blogspot.com

Slim lining and fine tuning your blog doesn’t have to be difficult. Having a slim lined and fine-tuned blog is a never ending battle. It’s hard work and you have to constantly fine-tune your blog in every aspect, whether it be monetizing, seo, or for traffic reasons. Fine-tuning your blog can help in various ways. Here is a list as to how to slim-line your blog and design it to be more user friendly.

1. Use categories. They will help your audience find what they are looking for a lot easier. They will appreciate you more for that.

2. Get rid of the cluttered look. Everything in your blog should have a proper “place”. It makes your blog look more professional and not something that you just put together overnight or something.

3. Unused links or dead links can be frustrating to users. Weekly checks of your links should just about do it. Remove or replace any dead links as soon as you can.

4. Don’t burden your site/blog with a lot of pictures or movies. If it takes your page a long time to download see what you can take out that won’t sacrifice the quality for your users, users will usually go the other way if it takes too long. Download time should be 1 second or less, depending of course on the users connection!

5. Keep your articles well organized. Looking for an article that should be in one category and finding it another kind of defeats the purpose for categories.

6. Blogging layout and articles should follow the K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple silly) method. Beginners (like myself) don’t understand a lot of the technical jargon. If you can, put it in layman’s terms. If it’s meant to be for beginners, make it for beginners.

7. Keep your “super” links and ditch the old ones or not so good ones. This will make your blog/site more search engine friendly by keeping the URL’s found on your blog to a minimum.

8. Keywords should be kept to a minimum of 20 in your meta tags. If you want to know how to insert or use meta tags for search enging optimization (seo) please feel free to look at my article on adding meta tags to your site/blog.

9. Design of your blog/site is key when users want an easy to use interface. Providing and easy to use interface to users lets them browse, link and subscribe a lot easier to your site. Visit your site and test it to see if it’s user friendly. Compare it with other sites and look at the differences, then write them down and see what you can improve on.

10. Provide and RSS feed so that your users can subscribe keep up with your articles and always be “in the know” about your blog or articles.

These ten tips should help you out in a small way. Maybe there are a few points that I missed again, please feel free to add. Like I said before, fine-tuning your blog is an almost weekly if not daily (for some of us) routine. Your users will appreciate you for it and it will help your blog out at the same time. http://www.moonburst-tones.blogspot.com

Really Simple Syndication or RSS to a lot of people is a common mechanism used by many website owners and administrators to capture good traffic from potential visitors. Just as it a good marketing and promotional mechanism, making it as effective as it is substantial. Below are some of the ways on how you can excel in RSS:

1. Determine your targeted market. This is going to be necessary because you will be able to appropriately determine the right kind of sites that you can promote for your potential readers and visitors.

2. You can position and publish your web contents on some other related sites to make it more appealing thus producing more and more possible traffic.

3. Make sure that what you give your readers is something that is worthy of their time and attention. Web contents that are highly reliable and useful are deemed essential and beneficial. Stick with these kinds of content materials and you will never go wrong with your RSS mechanism.

4. If you are not sure about how and what sorts of things are necessary in order to perform the whole process of RSS, educate yourself first and do not pretend that you know all things.

5. When done with the RSS feeds you may want to have these feeds submitted to a more reputable and established aggregators. These well established aggregators would be a lot easier to locate and find rather than the not so familiar ones.

6. Be imaginative and innovative. You can include multimedia elements like graphics, moving objects, colorful texts to add up in the creativity of your RSS feeds.

7. Develop a content that is keyword-bound. The keywords on your content are essential elements that search engines are very sensitive about. When search engines are able to locate related keywords on your content, it makes the whole thing positively impacting.

Do you want to learn more about how I do it? I have just completed my brand new guide to article marketing success, ‘Your Article Writing and Promotion Guide’

As you are an internet user, you will no doubt understand how fun, interesting and educational it is to read a blog - you may even own and update a blog yourself - but if you have no traffic to your blog then you might as well be writing to yourself. Where do you find the content to write the information for your posts - you need to ask yourself the question of where do you research for content to write and publish on your blog. PLR content articles can help you publish some ideas and writings on your blog, that can help increase visitors to your site and increase the amount of hits to your individual pages = increased traffic. It is so obvious that you can use these articles on your blog in order to increase the search engine traffic that finds its way to your blog through google; this can then help you boost your blog’s popularity and the amount of readers and subscribers that you have.

By producing quality content and publishing it on your blog, you will be able to increase the rate of growth that your blog takes. Not so easy, and you are probably thinking to yourself “hmm, how do I increase the traffic to my blog then?” - read on to see some examples of how to increase the traffic to your blog.

Articles need Keywords in them

Your articles need to contain positive keywords, so that they will attract organic traffic and search engines to your post - even commenting on other blogs, including your keywords, will help you rank for a keyword in that particular article! Each keyword that you ultimately use in each article will result in your article being returned to the search results, when a user searches for a particular key word - such as increasing traffic to your blog. For example, as long as your blog is indexed in Google and in other search engines, such as Yahoo and MSN, and you sell fridge freezers, then when someone searches for something relating to “fridge freezers” or something related to the term fridge freezers, they will see your blog displayed in the results, hopefully in the top ten. What you are trying to do here is to increase the ranking of your blog to increase the chances of it being listed on page one for the term “fridge freezer” - why do you want to be on the first page? - because people generally only look through the first 10-20 results when they search for a certain query.

Make your articles Informative and educational

Ensuring that each article you place on your blog is educational and entertaining you will ensure that your readers will enjoy reading the article that you’ve written and will want to continue to read other posts that are on your blog - hopefully they will subscribe to your RSS feed and continue to read more of your blog posts in the future. If you are not the best writer in the world, like most bloggers, then you could of course choose to out-source the work and opt to hire another blogger to write posts for your blog. There are many freelancer bloggers who are willing to offer blog post services to you as a blog writer for a fee; even if these people are not directly related to the area of your blog, you could still hire them as they could write great content articles that you could adapt to increase traffic to your blog, after all they’re experienced writers that you can trust. Using experienced blog writer to produce content posts for your blog will give your readers what they want - quality content!

Regular posting is always good

You need to update your blog on a regular basis, readers of your blog will become bored of looking at the same content everyday if it doesn’t change and will probably stop visiting your blog and un-subscribe from your rss feed, reducing the amount of traffic that will visit your blog. Keeping the content fresh on your blog and updating it regularly will help improve and grow the readership of your blog. If you choose a blog writer to produce some content posts and help you publish numerous posts, then you could schedule the content and keyword rich posts to be published through that week for your readers to view. Therefore, you could relax at the fact that your blog would be continually updated with fresh content and you would be able to produce some additional content for the week after.

If you use the above tips then you will no doubt receive a boost in increased traffic to your blog - this does mean that your blog will become more popular and that readers will return more frequently to the blog to read the regular blog updates that will be posted by yourself and your blog writer(s). If you use this strategy, then you will have accomplished an important concept, because the readers that regularly read your blog will loyal and convertible readers that you can sell to. Why? because they like your site so much.

So, if you have a blog or you’re thinking about making one - or even setting a little corner up on the web, then keeping in mind the above tips will be beneficial to you, as they will help you increase the readership of your blog and the profile of your blog in search engines and ultimately increase your blog traffic from searches that people make on the internet. Oh, and it should increase your blog sales too!

A Blog is short for Web Log and has become a new and exciting form of communication. It is like a diary or a journal personal or corporate that is posted on the Internet for public viewing and updated from time to time. It enables people to publish comments, ideas and opinions for others to read. Besides being a personal from of expression, corporate blogs offer a platform for marketing new ideas, communication channels between management and employees, discussion of industry and media trends, news coverage and even political expressions. We also have law blogs, school blogs and marketing blogs.

Although blogs have now assumed importance a being a part of the contemporary social and corporate lifestyle, like all other forms of published expressions, blogs can be harmful. As blogs gain popularity as marketing tools, lawyers say companies have to consider the legal issues associated with them. Just like printed published materials, blogs have raised many challenging issues and are open to copyright infringement, defamation suits and privacy issues. This has necessitated companies to be aware of the legal phenomenon involved and establish ground rules to avoid lawsuits and other legal troubles.

However, law on blogs and laws on blogging still remain a gray area and there is little legal precedent for a company planning a blog site. It is only in the very recent past that courts across the country have started addressing this issue and applying the current framework of law to blogs. Courts may soon decide whether bloggers are immune from defamation suits under the Communications Decency Act. Although, slow in coming, blogs are not entirely without legal frontiers and are slowly getting conversant with the blogging problems. In the meantime blogs are multiplying and changing the way people communicate. Until the law is clarified, bloggers should know they are potentially liable for any false and defamatory speech they post online.

The first concern that comes to mind is that of libel and whether the company will run into legal problems if they start blogging. By virtue of blogging being easy to publish and correct, it is also easy for a blogger to fix the information that may be damaging or false. If you are quick enough to correct the mistake in your blog, libel, typically will not be a problem.

Although, it is not necessary for a lawyer to review every blog, some precautions won’t hurt. Run it past by a lawyer, add appropriate disclaimers and ensure that your bloggers are reliable. Another thing that you can do to avoid unnecessary claims is to have a policy for your own company blog and one for how you deal with employees who have their own.

Given the fact that a blog contains text, images, hyperlinks and even music or video files one must be aware of the intellectual property matters applicable to blogs. Issues include ownership of content, person liable for infringing material, trademark issues as well as the potential disclosure of trade secrets by employees or third parties.

Typically, the person creating the content and posting it to the blog will own the copyright. In the case of a company, it owns the content posted by an employee and has the right to redistribute or reuse it for other purposes. The company may also acquire the copyright for the content.

If the infringing content is posted to a corporate blog that is operated by an employee then both, the business and the person posting the content could be held liable. However if the content is on a personal blog, the risk to the company is minimal.

Just as with other publish material, the title of the blog may be in question if it copied form another trademark. Additionally, the use of the company’s trademarks or the trademarks of other companies in blog posts could also give rise to liability. It would be better for the person initiating the blog to clear the trademark issues beforehand so as not to cause infringement problems.

Confidential issues and trade policies should be strictly kept off blogs. Employees should be warned of public disclosure of sensitive information as well as made aware of intellectual property rights. Posting of such information may create liability issues and strict policies regarding these should be laid down from the beginning.

When advising clients, lawyers should emphasize the use of common sense and the application of existing legal rules and corporate policies to business and employee blogs. This strategy should go a long way toward protecting the business that ventures into this new medium.

There are millions upon millions of blogs out there, with thousands more being started every day. Starting a blog is one of the easiest things you can do on the net, what with sites like Blogger. The problem is most blogs run out of steam a few weeks after they start. Only a few bloggers really know how to turn an interesting past-time into a money making machine.

Blogging is really no different from any other internet marketing. To make money you have to have traffic and that traffic has to want to buy stuff somehow related to what you’re writing about. 99% of all bloggers can’t get past the creating the traffic stage, much less the monetizing the blog state. Let’s look at these two steps, traffic and monetization, and break them down into understandable chunks.

Creating traffic with blogging is almost easy. You just have to write about what everyone wants to read, then let them know about it.

How do you figure out what people want to read? Sites like Technorati are invaluable for this.

Technorati ranks blogs according to how many visitors they get. It is also possible to search through blogs listed at Technorati by tags or keywords. In other words, I could do a search for internet marketing blogs and get the top internet marketing blogs that Technorati lists.

Once you find out what the top blogs are look at the first hundred or so. Do you notice any patterns? Does any particular area stand out? Are blogs about celebrities hot? How about financial blogs?

Of course, you might not want to pit yourself against the big boys and girls. You might want to find a niche to blog about where you have less competition.

The single most important thing about your niche is that you already know enough about it to write a hundred or so articles. If you want success blogging, your topic needs to be something you’re happy to live with for the next year or so.

A key to blogging success is frequency of your posts. Ideally, you’ll want to quickly work up to posting every day. You might want to start out only posting three days a week, or even weekly. It’s very important not to let your frequency drop, for two reasons. Your readers will learn when to expect new material, and they will adjust their visits accordingly. Google’s spiders will learn your frequency of posts, too. To get Google coming back to your site more often, post more often.

Other than training Google to index your pages frequently, there are three free things you can do to market your blog–comment on other blogs, participate in blog carnivals, social bookmark your posts.

Once you get traffic, you have to figure out how to make money off of your visitors. AdSense may work, but what you really need is affiliate products you can sell your visitors.
